Calling all music lovers, it's about that time! Yes, that's right the Jazz in the Gardens music festival is returning to the Sun Life Stadium in two days and it will be hosted by the nationally syndicated radio personality, Michael Basden. On March 19th and 20th music aficionados will have the opportunity to enjoy the two day festival which features a wide variety of music ranging from African and Caribbean sounds to R&B.
Last year 45,000 guests attended the event to see Grammy award winning artists such as Mary J. Blige, Robin Thicke, John Legend, Teena Marie, Boyz II Men, Cassandra Wilson and David Sanborn alongside a host of other world renowned talents such as Joe Sample, Melanie Fiona, K’Jon and Eric Roberson, attracting both locals and thousands of out-of-towners to the beautiful City of Miami Gardens. This year's performances include Miami's own DJ Irie, Lalah Hathaway, Charlie Wilson, Lauryn Hill, Musiq Soulchild, Gladys Knight, Isley Brothers and many more.
Not only can you expect to hear great music, endles food vendors will be there as well...who can resist that combination? Mayor Shirley Gibson can't. In fact she had this to say about Jazz In The Gardens.
“Like all Jazz in the Gardens fans, I wait in anticipation to hear who is performing and once again I’m excited! The 2011 line-up is absolutely fantastic and I look forward to all the fans from around the nation joining us again. This added event in Miami Gardens brings added value to the City and to South Florida in general. I am proud of our City; in the seven years since incorporation, the City has seen a number of tremendous positive
changes and improvements. There is a lot more work ahead of us, but Jazz in the Gardens is more than a concert, it is an opportunity and experience that people want to enjoy year after year.”
However the Jazz in the Gardens festival isn't the only thing to watch for, be sure to look out for pre-festival events, star studded after parties, and the Celebrity Golf Classic (March 18th) at the Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa which are all happening in conjunction to the festival.
Julius "Dr J" Erving, Alonzo Mourning, Edgerrin James, Nat Moore, Tim Hardaway and The Ojay's are amongst some of the celebs have participated in the past.
Jazz In The Gardens ticket prices range from $70 - $145, but they are going fast so get them while you can!
